“Exuberantly fresh aromas of citrus-suffused green apple lead to plump, round and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that exhibit fine depth and persistence on the lightly stony, clean and agreeably dry finale. This is a quality Bourgogne that should drink well after only a year or so of keeping. Drink 2023+ Outstanding Top value. 87pts.”

“Whilst there has been a change in the guard at Domaine Violot-Guillemard with Thierry’s eldest son Joannes taking the helm, this is very much a soft transition. New packaging from 2019 is reflective of this. Thierry inherited small parcels of wonderful vineyards planted since 1936. The last decade has seen purchases of small plots doted around the Cote de Beaune. Bottling around 5000 cases each vintage, this is a Pommard address that is highly sought after. Six hectares across two dozen vineyards which the family farms biologically, most biodynamically. All fruit is handpicked, mostly de-stemmed but Joannes is including some whole bunches in some cuves. Pneumatic press prior to a four-day cold maceration in open wood fermenters. Spontaneous ferments for about 15 days at up to 33 degrees during which time pigeage takes place. The TGV wines completely defy the old notion that Pommard is hard and needs ten years to soften.”
