Embra presents a smooth balance of smoky flavours and rich textures. Featuring a diverse range of yeasts, including two distillers strains, three brewers yeasts, and two wine yeasts. Embra is an ideal introduction to peat, while still delivering the smoky depth peat drinkers love.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Lemon zest, horse chestnut pith, hints of peppermint and light hickory smoke.
Palate: Wafer biscuits, dark chocolate mousse and notes of earthy highland peat smoke.
Finish: Well rounded and clean with light notes of stewed pears.
Holyrood is a distillery that has been experimenting from day one, with grains, with yeast, with casks. Just about anything that can be tweaked or altered whilst still being scotch. That being said, when it comes to the Edinburgh distillery’s core releases, they have well and truly knocked it out of the park.
Founded in 2019 in the old town part of Edinburgh, they have just been awarded 2025 Distillery of the Year at the World Whisky Awards.
