Now up to Batch 8, Headlands Apera Cask Single Malt is a fusion of ex-bourbon casks and Australian Apera casks. At a little over 5 years old, the spirit is decently well aged for a local whisky, and the time and commitment to quality spirit shows, with a well integrated, balanced texture and deep, but not overwhelmingly intense preserved fruits & vanilla on the palate.
“Black currant on the nose. Marmalade and dried fruit peel combine with hints of walnuts, complex toasted oak, baked pears and vanilla”
Headlands Distilling Co. began in 2015 when a group of science, engineering and business graduates started Wollongong’s first distillery, with a grain-to-glass mindset for their spirit, and plenty of local influence with regards to their gins and liqueurs. Come 2020, Headlands Single Malt was released, quickly becoming a hit in the growing local scene. Their focus on incredibly high quality base spirit, and a well planned cask regime has seen the quality of their whisky only improve in the years since its first release.
