Description

Cadenhead’s new range of undisclosed malts.  And in case you have forgotten, enigma can de defined as, “mysterious or difficult to understand”.

A well-aged Speysider with a rather unusual sherry finish for this region, Manzanilla casks. A very dry, slightly nutty sherry.

From WordsOfWhisky, “Arriving on a fair amount of ginger. Some chili also. Feels slightly hot. But it’s not unbalanced. There’s hints of cigar boxes, definitely some mint, maybe cough syrup and also liquorice root. And the sweet fruitiness adds some stability. It’s faint, but think apricots and yellow plums.  Finish: Medium length. Herbal notes at first, but ending with gentle orchard fruits”.

Official notes read, “Bacon crisps, chorizo, salted caramel popcorn, olives.  Tangerine, mineral, pebbles on the beach,  70-80% dark chocolate, Turkish delight.” (ed. My emphasis, but who sucks on beach pebbles?  Maybe a curious Campbeltown obsession?)

Cadenhead is Scotland’s oldest independent bottler, having being founded in 1842 as William Cadenhead Limited Wine & Spirit Merchants. It was family owned until it was bought by another family company J&A Mitchell & Co, owners of the Springbank and Glengyle distilleries.
