The Australian Distillers’ Dinner is back for 2024, so join us during Whisky Week for a memorable night of food and drinks!

Join us and several representatives from the Australian whisky scene, as we share some incredible food, and celebrate another year of the Sydney Whisky Fair!  With representation from distilleries both new & well established, expect a night of great whiskies, paired with personal stories and presentations from people who are integral parts of local industry.

This year we are lucky enough to be hosting this event at The Rover, in Surry Hills. On the night we will be provided with several shared courses, and be seated in the upstairs restaurant. Please contact team@oakbarrel.com.au if you have any dietary requirements. Beer and wine will also be provided on the night.

Meet The Distillers

Craig Michael – Bellarine Distillery

Bellarine Distillery is the first distillery on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria. It was founded by Russ Watson & Lorelle Warren in 2015, with Craig coming aboard is Head Distiller in 2017. Since then they have been producing Whisky and Gin, as is the trend with so many Australian distilleries!  They have since built a robust local following, with their spirits taking out awards in local and national competitions. We welcome them to NSW this year to both the Distiller’s Dinner & Whisky Fair!

John Halton – Transportation Whiskey

Transportation Whiskey is the result of an inspirational trip to Ireland’s Midleton distillery, several generations of Tasmanian & Irish heritage, and a desire to make high quality spirit unlike anyone else in Australia. John produces traditional, triple distilled, single pot Irish style whiskey down in Tasmania, with the name Transportation paying homage to the transfer of the first convicts to Van Diemans Land centuries ago.

Kristy Booth-Lark – Killara

A veteran of the Australian Distilling scene, Kristy is back at The Oak Barrel once again this year. Having cut her teeth in the industry as head distiller at Lark, she later branched out, starting her own distillery, Killara, named after the street she grew up on. Her small batch spirit is regarded as some of the best liquid in Australia.

Sam Slaney – Starward

Starward & The Oak Barrel go way back, and with our latest Single Cask release for this year’s Fair, what better a time than now to invite Sam Slaney, Head Distiller for Starward up to talk about this incredible new single cask and Australian whisky’s place in the global scene.

Rachael Thomson – Thomson Whisky (New Zealand)

Hailed as the first of the new wave New Zealand whisky distilleries, Thomson Whisky is New Zealand’s most awarded whisky distillery to date. A leader in the NZ craft scene their Manuka Smoke single malt has contributed a brand-new flavour profile to the world of whisky. With an obsession for local ingredients, and utilising what is in abundance around them, the Thomson Whisky range sums up the New Zealand ethos of living close to nature. Co-founder Rachael Thomson will be joining you at the Oak Barrel this year, to share their unique story.

And Dave Withers – Archie Rose

What better a way to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Whisky Fair than to invite David Withers, one of our former Whisky & Spirit buyers back once again for the Australian Whisky Distillers’ Dinner!  Dave is the Master Distiller at Archie Rose, one of Australia’s most recognisable whisky brands, known for their experimental approach to grain driven spirit.
