For those chasing a slightly sweeter dram, the Sauternes Cask Finish is for you. Arran takes their spirit, and ages it for an extended finish in carefully selected Sauternes barrels, creating a desserty, honeyed spirit that is lighter, and less tannic than what is typically seen in Port & Sherry finishes. Notes of rockmelon, salted caramel and floral spices.
Perfect on a crisp, early winter evening.
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: Honey sweetness and citrus
Palate: Richly honeyed and backed with a lifting zestiness which slides into spice and zingy salt. Once the dram opens out, vanilla and sultana stand out followed by notes of toasted oak.
Finish: Sweetness, Honey, Apricots, Melon, Honeysuckle.
The Arran distillery, on the northern end of the Isle Of Arran, began production in 1995 and is held as a success story of “modern” distilleries. They’ve a range of age statement, cask finishes and limited editions.
