Description

The showstopper release for Adelphi’s 30th anniversary.  There aren’t many distilleries quite like Mortlach, especially when it comes to old age statements. Theres something about the depth and density of character that always shines in this older Mortlachs, and this one is no exception. “Ripe honeydew melon, candied grapefruit, peach shnapps, cardamom, cocoa powder, and orange blossom with a distinct and stunning minerality throughout. Complex, fruit-driven and elegant.” are the notes from Adelphi.

This is a fantastic release from a fantastic independent bottler. Good job Adelphi.

Adelphi is one of the world’s top independent bottlers of whisky. They acquire casks already matured to bottle, as opposed to maturing them themselves, and the Adelphi brand has been synonymous with top quality whisky for in the post-2000 era.  The company also owns the Ardnamurchan distillery on Scotland’s east coast, which distilled its first spirit in 2014 and released its first single malt in 2020.

Part of Diageo’s stable, Mortlach enjoys a cult status amongst whisky drinkers thanks to its thick, meaty texture. That unique spirit comes from a complex and unique distillation program, which sees the new make pass through a number of stills of varying shapes and sizes. In the end, it is said that Mortlach distill their spirit 2.81 times. The complex regime results in a thick, meaty spirit – one of Scotland’s thickest – and has been prized by independent bottlers and drinkers since the vaunted 16-year-old Flora & Fauna release put it into the public psyche.
