Golden Ball Wines is located in Beechworth, Victoria. The property, and then winery, was named after the favourite London hotel of the original Englishman granted the land in 1857. Now the estate consists of 53 acres planted to Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Malbec. With all wines grown, vinified and bottled on the property, Golden Ball wines represent a true and pure expression of the terroir of the Beechworth wine region.
Gallice:Â Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec
The 2005 Gallice shows more fruit on the nose than the 2006, with sour cherry, black cherry, cassis, aniseed, yet still a touch of that Cabernet menthol and peppermint. A softer style than the 2006, the tannins are well-integrated and give the wine a velvety mouth-feel. Surprisingly light and pretty for a blend of these varieties.
“The best of its line for sure. Lovely wine. Structured, distinctive, pencilly, flooded with blackcurrant and sheered with (a little too much) eucalypt. Classy drop otherwise. It will age like a charm. Sophisticated tannin structure. The goods.” – 93 Points. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
