A very limited Port Charlotte expression bottled by Melbourne’s Elysian whisky bar in collaboration with a number of other bars around Australia.
One of Australia’s best whisky venues, this is the fifth exclusive from the Elysian. Distilled at Islay’s Bruichladdich distillery, the heavily peated Port Charlotte has been fully matured in a French red Burgundy cask from Domaine Leroy.
Distilled 2004 and bottled as a 13-year-old.
There are 302 bottles in the world, a small selection of which came to Australia, bottled at 56.9%.
As well as Elysian, the cask was split with The Mash Tun in Tokyo, Backyard Jr in Taipei and The Lab Whisky & Cocktail in Shanghai. It was bottled by Whiskyfind.
The nose has sweet coconut, poached pears, red fruits and gentle spices. Palate is chewy, amazingly soft and drinkable at natural ABV. Juicy, some pepper, red fruits, haw flakes, with a touch of peat. Chewy, complex and long, moving towards a dry finish, making you go back for the next sip.
