The second release from the Pierre Ferrand ‘Renegade’ barrel series of modern experimentation with French brandy.

Although the house has a strong link to recreating centuries-old styles, the Renegade series is about extreme innovation. This is made with Pierre Ferrand Cognac which is then transferred into a chestnut cask. Due to the strict laws surrounding Cognac, the secondary barrel means it now needs to be called ‘Eau De Vie De Vin’.

Chestnut barrels were allowed in Cognac production until the end of World War Two, when in 1945 they fell off the AOC regulations.

The second maturation enhances the honeyed, candied fruits and floral notes.

Official tasting notes:

Nose: Scent of honeydew, candied fruits develop into a more floral profile with prune, fig and apricot.

Palate: Sweet and full, with licorice, coconut, baked apple and pear, hints of Muscat and spiciness.

A limited edition originally released in 2017, there were 7,00 bottles worldwide.

In 1989 the Maison Ferrand cognac house was largely dormant, although sitting on large stocks of aging cognac. In 1989 Alexandre Gabriel went into business with the house to bring it back onto the market.

Originally reviving the Grand Champagne Cognac that the Ferrand family had been producing for ten generations in the famous region, the company has now gone on to produce the Citadelle gin and Plantation rum brands.
