The Octomore 10.4 release from the super-heavily peated range of Islay's Bruichladdich distillery.
This edition is distilled from Scottish Concerto barley and peated to 88 PPM. It was distilled in 2016 from the 2015 grain harvest.
Matured exclusively in virgin Limousin French oak for three years. It is the youngest Octomore ever.
24 casks yielded 12,000 bottles globally.
Official tasting notes:
Nose: There is a richness, chocolate, tobacco, bonfire smoke, leather. Vanilla custard, blueberry, dry straw and pear drops.
Palate: Warming, spicy – mulled wine. Leather and tobacco, malt sugar, icing sugar. All wrapped in earthy peaty smoke. Dry on the palate.
Finish: Oak driven, coconut, tobacco, vanilla, then smoke. The time in the cask has calmed the smoke, both through the phenols lowering naturally over time and the influence of the oak becoming greater.
