A special release from North Star from the Glasgow distillery.
This marks North Star's 100th single cask bottling - a five year old from the new lowland distillery released the month they were also celebrating their fifth anniversary.
This was a refill hogshead finished by North Star for around two years in an oloroso sherry hpgshead. Distilled March 2016 it was bottled March 2021 at 51.5%. There are 358 bottles in the release.
Nose: My mum's tablet soaked in sherry, cinnamon and black pepper.
Palate: Sweet like a coconut snowball with toasted nuts.
Finish: Scotch Aromatics Sweeties, sherry comes back with a fruit and nut.
The Glasgow distillery was founded in 2015, become the first single-malt specific distillery in the capital for 100 years (grain distillery Strathclyde produced malt during the '60s and '70s). A light and fruity spirit has been often matched with ex-bourbon casks. They distilled unpeated spirit initially although peated spirit has been distilled more recently.
North Star have quickly become one of The Oak Barrel's favourite independent bottlers. Exceptional cask selections at very reasonable prices, they are exciting, fun whiskies - even when they're very serious - which are designed to be drunk and shared.
