Marsanne is one of the principal white varieties grown in the Rhône Valley in France. It is not common in Australia, but there are significant plantings around Nagambie, where it thrives.
Marsanne normally makes a medium bodied lightly aromatic wine. In 2017 we picked the fruit very early giving a crisp and delicate wine with just 11% alcohol. Kept for 18 months on yeast lees, the wine is full of flavour and has developed excellent complexity and texture.
It was gravity bottled under Diam corks with no fining or treatments, other than a touch of Sulphur. As bottled, the wine has a very light haze which we could easily have removed by filtration, but we chose not to compromise the flavour with this additional processing step.
