The 2017 release of the Midleton Very Rare, the top expression from the distillery of the same name in County Cork.
The 2017 release was the 34th in the series and saw the introduction of brand new packaging in most markets. Australia, however, was one of the few areas to be issued the ‘old style’ packaging, and this bottling is the last time this label and bottle shape will be seen for the Very Rare.
The Very Rare series is crafted from exemplary casks from around the distillery and the 2017 edition is rumoured to include some very old whiskey – including a 32-year-old grain and 26-year-old single pot still.
First released in 1984, the Very Rare has always been a symbol of luxury and this release is silky and complex, lots of fruit held up by a gentle, delicate spice.
