The 2019 release of the Michter’s Shenk Homestead release, a rye-forward expression that has been finished for 24 months in air-dried French oak barrels.
Dubbed a ‘Sour Mash’ as the mash bill contains neither the minimum 51% rye or 51% corn to be called rye or bourbon.
Bottled at 45.6% it’s a Kentucky sipper, the rye prominent in flavour but the overall experience quite gentle.
The Shenk series from Michter’s Legacy range pays homage to John Shenk, who founded the Shenk’s distillery in 1753. It would later become Bomberger’s, spiritual home of modern-day Michter’s.
Small allocation into Australia, current batch is L19G1140 which had 2,920 bottles total.
