A cask strength version of Kilchoman's much-loved Machir Bay expression, bottled for Christmas 2020.
Machir Bay is the best known expression from the Islay distillery, a mixture of powerful smoke and farmyard terrior. The whisky that put them on the world stage, it is one of the best loved entry-level peated Scotches on the market and cask samples at cask strength have been a hit at various tasting tours.
This Machir Bay is a limited edition run for the 2020 festive edition, bottled at 58.6%. Approximately 90 percent ex-bourbon casks and 10 percent ex-sherry, this is a big, powerful dram with all the character of the distillery.
It also features Islay sheep in Santa hats on the label.
In their own words, "Our Machir Bay release has been bottled at cask strength for various tasting tours we have done in Europe, USA and Asia. We thought it was about time we did a Machir Bay Cask Strength batch for all our markets around the world to enjoy, especially as it’s always worked beautifully and been received so well in the past.
"The whisky packs a punch and delivers a big finish packed full of flavour, a perfect dram for your winter evenings.”
Built in 2005, independently-owned Kilchoman was the first new distillery be founded on Islay for 125 years.
A favourite of The Oak Barrel staff, this release has a limited Australian allocation.
