A single malt whisky distilled at Lark and curated and bottled by Heartwood in Tasmania.
Cask LD567 - an oloroso sherry cask - was filled August 2009 and thus was bottled September 2017, 67.1% with 260 bottles.
In Heartwood's words, "Heart of Darkness is a 67.1% and does it have legs. This could be good or bad as your are unaware of the ABV. Yeah it's alright. It is so "Alright " that there are only 21 bottles now available.
"It has beauty. It has grace. It is dark. It is sensual. It is a temptress. You will be swept away by its presence. Too much of a good thing though and it may smack you in the back of the head. True darkness of the soul. A black widow. An alluring assassin. Everything in moderation."
This comes from a private collection, only one to sell.
Heartwood - founded by Tim Duckett - is arguably Australia's most lauded independent bottler, having bottled a number of Tasmanian whiskies in the modern industry's formative years. Known for his unorthodox techniques of blending casks, beating his whisky with a paddle, rolling casks into the sun-exposed "hot box" of his warehouse - some Heartwoods are considered by whisky lovers to be amongst the best Australian whiskies ever released.
