Ryukyu Awamori is a distilled liquor with an old history and a unique manufactuing method: distinctly using black koji (as opposed to white) and long-grain Thai rice as opposed to Japonica. Using the same recipe and method for about 600 years, Miyazato adds rice and water to the raw material at the same time, so fermentation and distillation all occur withing the same machine.
This is 100% naturally brewed and does not add any alcohol or other additives. After distilling, it is aged by long-term storage, resulting in a mellowed, deep and rich flavour.
Different ways of drinking Awamori can alter the flavour, depending on what you are feeling like.
Best served neat or on the rocks. When drinking Awamori with water, try using chilled water as it allows it to mellow out and you can enjoy it for a longer time!
