The 15-year-old Glenfiddich expression matured in a solera vat system.
This whisky is matured in European sherry and new oak casks, this is then transferred to a large oak tun - the solera - from where this is drawn from. The sokera system is never emptied and has been in commision since 1998, creating consistency and an ever-aging single malt.
Nose: An intriguingly complex aroma. Sweet heather honey and vanilla fudge combined with rich dark fruits.
Palate: Silky smooth, revealing layers of sherry oak, marzipan, cinnamon and ginger. Full-bodied and bursting with flavour.
Finish: Satisfyingly rich with lingering sweetness
Founded in 1886, Glenfiddich is the world's most popular single malt - and has the size to prove it. One of Scotland's biggest malt distilleries by annual output, a planned expansion - approved in 2015 and due to be completed in 2020 - will significantly increase it again.
Glenfiddich produces a heavy new make from its small stills, which have remained the same shape since 1886, but an early cut point gives the whisky a delicate refinement which helps with the floral note seen on their younger expressions.
