The wines of the France’s Jura region are fast becoming some of the most sought after across the globe. Nestled between the region of Burgundy to the west, and Switzerland to the east, the region of Jura finds itself situated towards a large limestone plateau. Despite Jura being the smallest wine region in France, with it’s vineyards only extending 80km in total, it produces a wide range of different wine styles from the light, aromatic Poulsard’s to the rich, oxidative Vin Jaune’s (yellow wine, the perfect match for Comte cheese) with incredible ageing potential.
The Jura region is one of the most unique wine producing regions in all of France, with only a very small portion being exported. With such a rich winemaking history, many vineyards family owned for several decades, and a passion across the region for organic and biodynamic farming the wines from this tiny region are appreciated and enjoyed by passionate wine enthusiasts for all the right reasons.
Unlike the much larger, well known regions around France and other parts of the world, one has to dig a bit further to get information about this wonderful region and it’s unique winemaking and grape growing techniques.
We’ve teamed up with wine legend Charlie Simpson of Virtuous Vine, who’s no stranger to the vineyards of the Jura having worked with Domaine de la Pinte for a number of years, to put together an incredible Jura tasting with 8 different styles of wines hailing from the Jura region including Vin Jaune going back to 1976!
