This French region is fascinated, researched, adored, and loved by millions around the world. With a focus on predominantly 2 main grapes, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the immense diversity in flavours, texture, soil, vineyard location, cru's, and lots more is simply mind-boggling.
Winemaking in Burgundy dates all the way back to the 1st century AD with the Romans, but it was in the middle ages where the Catholic monks established the greatest vineyards for the Dukes of Burgundy and the church. After the French Revolution, the vineyards were given back to the people of Burgundy and Napoleonic inheritance laws divided up rows among growers across the region. Today many growers may only hold 1 or 2 rows in some of the greatest vineyards. Burgundy demonstrates a close personal relationship to the land in vignerons and winegrowers.
Because of the amount of detail available, getting into Burgundy can be quite intimidating. This tasting is designed to be fun and interactive with no prior knowledge assumed. We'll taste through a range of 8 wines from across Burgundy. Not only will we go into each wine, but we’ll also talk about the history of Burgundy, producers, styles, vineyards, and much more.
