A 26-year-old single cask from the closed Cambus grain distillery, bottled by France's Dumangin J Fils Champagne house.
The bottler has finished the whisky for nine months in an ex-Ratafia Champenois cask, a style of fortified from Champagne that sees brandy added to grapes before fermentation. It is a drier style of fortified.
This was distilled July 1993 and bottled January 2020, with 310 bottles at 49.9%.
Once a powerhouse of spirit production, Cambus was closed by owners in 1993 as owners Diageo reoganised their business. In 2011 they converted the site into a cooperage.
Oak Barrel tasting notes:
Soft vanilla. Butterscotch. Crushed apple. Brown sugar. Nose is gently seeet and alluring. Palate is full, hazelnut and macadamia. Dried pear. Good length finish with baking spice and tannin. The secondary maturation is felt here.
