This has long been a benchmark terroir for the reds of Chassagne (though, it in fact produces outstanding quality in both colours). For those who have visited the cellars, Clos Saint-Jean is the walled vineyard right next door, and the Estate’s parcel sits in the heart of the original Clos. This section of the vineyard is 2.2 hectares and was traditionally called Chassagne du Clos Saint-Jean. The Pillot family own just over one hectare here, split equally between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (they are the largest owners in the Clos).

Fermented with 50% whole bunches, I think the notes below cover the bases. It’s an outstanding and deep red Burgundy that will peak between 10 to 20 years of age.

'Half whole bunch vinification, from 45 year old vines on average across several plots. More purple than black with a lifted floral nose from the whole bunch. Very complex. And with huge density behind. A mix of red and black fruit at the finish and with the capacity to age well. 4 stars.' - 90-93 points. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
