Voted the best spirit in the world, a 1980 vintage Armagnac bottled by Darroze.
Darroze are specialists in Armagnac, usually bottling single cask, single vintage expressions to order (meaning that they don't always bottle a full cask at once). This Armagnac from Domaine de La Poste comes from the Tenareze region of Armagnac, and is slightly more congac-like than some of the Bas-Armagnac bottlings as it is made from 100% ugni blanc, the cognac grape.
Fresher and less rustic than some of Darroze's other bottlings, the 1980 vintage was awarded the world's best spirit in Spirit Journal, beating out other whiskies, cognacs and rums.
In Darroze's words: gold colour, very intense.
The nose is typical of this part of the Armagnac appelation: dry fruits (almond, hazelnuts), spices (vanilla, cloves) and more floral flavours (violet).
On the palate the tannis are light and fine.
Nice complexity with a long finish that never ends.
