A 12-year-old single malt whisky from Glenrothes, finished in Oloroso ex-sherry casks.
This is from the Darkness label of independent bottlings, an independent bottler of sherry-finished whiskies from Atom Brands, the company also behind That Boutique-y Whisky Company, Character Of Islay and Drinks By The Dram.
This was finished in an oloroso octave and bottled at 61.3%.
Glenrothes in Speyside is a renowned single malt through the distillery's official bottlings, and while there have been some excellent independent bottlings, they are getting harder to find.
Founded in 1878 Glenrothes's quality saw it become a key ingredient in Cutty Sark and Famous Grouse, before emerging as a popular single malt in the '90s. A whisky that can be both fruity and sweet, slow distillation (and often extended aging) gives Glenrothes it's pleasingly thick and textural palate.
The Darkness bottlings are a collection of intensely sherried whiskies, with every release undergoing their signature 6 months extra maturation in sherried octave casks. This results in an unparalleled richness and depth of flavour.
