A 14-year-old single malt whisky from Ardbeg, finished in Pedro Ximenez ex-sherry casks.
This is from the Darkness label of independent bottlings and has been bottled in Australia for Barrel & Batch.
This was finished in the PX octave and bottled at 47.7%.
This is from the same batch as the initial 52.2% release from last week. The same whisky was placed into a number of smaller octaves for the finish and so there are variances in the final ABVs.
Darkness is an independent bottler of sherry-finished whiskies from Atom Brands, the company also behind That Boutique-y Whisky Company, Character Of Islay and Drinks By The Dram.
Ardbeg is very rarely seen via an independent bottler, so this is quite rare.
Tasting notes by Sam Simmons, Head Of Whisky for Atom:
Nose: The perfect vanilla latte, honeyed gala apples and a rich earthiness.
Palate: Honey roasted nuts, warm blackberry marmalade and whiffs of bonfire.
Finish: Those warm fruits continue to linger long after the bonfire’s out.
Barrel & Batch is an Australia whisky co-op that sources single cask and rare whiskies from all over the country including Scotland, American and Australia. The limited release whiskies are offered to members of the co-op, but here at The Oak Barrel we’re lucky enough to get our hands on a small number of the odd release.
