The second release from farm distillery Daftmill, arriving into Australia in very limited quantities.
This Summer Batch Release was distilled in 2006 from chariot barley and bottled in 2018, with 1,665 bottles in the run. Bottled slightly before the whisky’s 12th birthday, this was matured in ex-Heaven Hill casks.
Daftmill is the one of the most anticipated new whiskies in Scotland. A true farmhouse expression, they grow all their own barley on site (they even supply other distilleries) and have a tiny annual capacity. The demands of the farming mean that distillation occurs during fourth months of the year, two in winter and two in summer. The annual output is reported to be as small as 20,000 litres a year.
Owner Francis Cuthbert first began distilling in 2005 but has avoided the urge to rush release his whisky. The first ever expression from the distillery was released in May 2018 as a 12-year-old. The whisky is designed to be a classic light, lowlands style, capturing the light, fruity esters off the still.
Very small allocation, sold out globally.
