A single cask whisky from the Blair Athol distillery, bottled by Cooper’s Choice.
This was distilled 2009 and bottled 2021 as an 11-year-old.
Matured in sherry cask #307276, there are 276 bottles at 52.5%.
One of Diageo's workhorse distilleries, Blair Athol was built in 1798. A key component in Bell's ever since that brand's introduction at the end of the 1800s, it is also a popular cellar door destination. The new make is malty and nutty, prized by blenders and excellent as a single malt when given the opportunity.
Nose: Delightful sweet sherry and dried fruits. Apricots and toffee.
Palate: Sweet and syrupy. Raisins and treacle toffee. Rich and mouthcoating.
Finish: More of the above with delicious sweet winey notes.
The Coopers Choice label is an independent bottling arm of The Vintage Malt Whisky Company, who are also responsible for lines like Finlaggen, SmokeStack and The Ileach. Paying homage to the impact of the cooper in Scotch whisky, they are single cask expressions often whiskies matured in ‘traditional’ casks (ex-sherry or ex-bourbon) but with finishes in modern styles (wine and fortified cask, rum barrels and the like).
