A 20-year-old 1997 single cask from the Clynelish distillery, bottled by Antique Lions Of Whisky – a series which is gorgeous is both appearance and flavour.
Distilled 1997 and bottled 2018 following maturating in a bourbon cask, there are just 253 bottles worldwide.
Very much a favourite of the whisky industry, modern Clynelish was built in 1967 next to an older distillery of the same name, which would eventually take on the moniker of Brora. The northern highland site is used mainly for Diageo’s blends, including the top level Johnnie Walkers, but it has carved a cult following from single malts, largely by the hands of independents.
Its waxy, honeyed texture is a favourite amongst whisky aficionados and the prospect of an Antique Lions Of Whisky-worthy cask has us salivating.
A very special release of whisky that created quite a stir when they were first released in Europe in 2017, the ‘Savannah’ series is the third release from Antique Lions Of Whisky. The indie bottler was formed by Jens Drewitz of Germany’s Sansibar alongside Italian whisky merchants Max Righi (Silver Seal) and Diego Sandrin (Whisky Antique).
This release is a homage to the Moon Import bottlings prominent in Europe in the ‘90s and ‘00s. Often beautifully stylised, this homage series has some of the best packaging we’ve ever seen.
The whiskies have been selected to have an ‘old world European’ style, so expect them to be soft, elegant and fruity with fantastic poise.
Having secured and presented the Birds series in 2017 and the Butterfly series in 2018, we are proud to have again secured a small allocation from the Savannah series.
