"Lovely fruit sweetness on the nose with bags of fresh smoke lingering on the palate."
Built in 1958, Tormore is a 'modern' distillery by Scotch whisky standards. Owned by Chivas Brothers/Pernod Ricard, the vast majority of its output is used for blends but the few single malts we get access to are highly rewarding. The fact that it remains so important for the blenders and therefore so rare as a single malt means it's hard to tie down a 'typical' flavour amongst indpenedent bottlers, but they tend to have a rigid maltiness.
Carn Mor is an independent bottling arm of Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers. The company has gone through a few names, being founded as John Murray & Co before it was taken over in 2005 by Kenny Mackay and former Morrison Bowmore chairman Brian Morrison. Initially bottling Scotch whisky under Carn Mor alongside the production of liqueurs, they founded the Aberagie distillery in Perthsire in 2017.
When Brian and son Jamie Morrison took sole ownership they rebranded as Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers in 2020. The Old Perth sherry cask matured blended malt and Mac-Talla Islay single malt brands are also part of the company's portfolio.
