Glenrothes in Speyside is a renowned single malt through the distillery's official bottlings, and while there have been some excellent independent bottlings, they are getting harder to find.
Founded in 1878 Glenrothes's quality saw it become a key ingredient in Cutty Sark and Famous Grouse, before emerging as a popular single malt in the '90s. A whisky that can be both fruity and sweet, slow distillation (and often extended aging) gives Glenrothes it's pleasingly thick and textural palate.
Carn Mor is an independent bottling arm of Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers. The company has gone through a few names, being founded as John Murray & Co before it was taken over in 2005 by Kenny Mackay and former Morrison Bowmore chairman Brian Morrison. Initially bottling Scotch whisky under Carn Mor alongside the production of liqueurs, they founded the Aberagie distillery in Perthsire in 2017.
When Brian and son Jamie Morrison took sole ownership they rebranded as Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers in 2020. The Old Perth sherry cask matured blended malt and Mac-Talla Islay single malt brands are also part of the company's portfolio.
