A smoky, meaty 13-year-old Caol Ila released by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail.
Caol Ila is part of the Diageo stable and the bulk of its capacity is destined for blends. For a long time the distillery’s quality as a single malt was a whisky insider’s secret. It was brought online as a single malt in the late ‘80s in part to showcase the oily, coastal, smoky spirit but also to ease the demand on sister distillery Lagavulin.
Now a cult favourite as an official single malt, it is also often seen in exceptional independent bottlings.
Nose: Sweet and savoury, dry-cured meats glazed with luscious apricot jam combines with rich vanilla notes. Flashes of softly swirling peat smoke complement the delicious sweetness.
Palate: Bursting with juicy tropical fruit - pineapple, kiwi, and banana - brushed softly with icing sugar. Light touches of malt and vibrant lemon peel balance the sweetness.
Finish: Long and luxurious with hints of sweet marshmallow toasting over gently smouldering bonfire embers.
This expression is part of Gordon & MacPhail’s Discovery series, which showcases classic whisky styles under the sherry cask, bourbon cask and smoky banners. Gordon & MacPhail is one of Scotland’s oldest and most respected independent bottlers and have one of the broadest and deepest collections of maturing Scotch whisky.
