A 1987 vintage from Speyside's Linkwood distillery, bottled by Cadenhead.
This was matured in ex-sherry butts (presumable refill) for 26 years before being bottled in 2014 at 56.8%. There are 972 bottles in this expression.
One of The Oak Barrel's favourite distilleries, young Linkwoods are fresh and grassy before developing oily texture and fruit complexity after a decade or so in the barrel.
Nose: Creamy, lots of vanilla, fresh baked bread, egg custard and dried banana chips.
Palate: Tofee popcorn with a touch of salt and pineapple chunks.
Finish: Crisp and dry, quite herbal with aniseed, gooseberries and a little nutty.
Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest independent bottler, having being founded in 1842 as William Cadenhead Limited Wine & Spirit Merchants. It was family owned until it was bought by another family company J&A Mitchell & Co, owners of the Springbank distillery.
