A 31-year-old blended malt whisky dubbed "light fruity syrupy" by the team at independent bottlers Cadenhead - batch two was bottled in 2019.
The Cadenhead Creations range is a series of small batch blends, blended malts and blended grains - made with a maximum of three casks and sometimes as single casks (where the cask was filled with a blend of whisky prior to maturation).
The Creations are a range of ages and strengths, giving the blending team a chance to experiment with flavour the only goal. There is some suggestion that the older blends were infact tinkering creations of former Springbank head distiller Frank McHardy, but given that he didn't write down the distillery names they are named after their flavour profiles.
This blended malt came from a single cask, which was married together in 2004. The youngest whisky in that marriage was 31-years-old and distilled in 1987.
Bottled at 50.1%.
Nose: Juicy fruits, faint warming spices and apricot jam.
Flavour: Proper old school mouth feel, chewy and fruity with passion fruit, guava and blood orange.
Finish: More chewy fruit with soft spice that fades away - a dram to savour.
Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest independent bottler, having being founded in 1842 as William Cadenhead Limited Wine & Spirit Merchants. It was family owned until it was bought by another family company J&A Mitchell & Co, owners of the Springbank and Glengyle distilleries.
