A 6-year-old super-heavily peated single cask from the Bruichladdich distillery (read: Octomore), bottled by Antique Lions Of Whisky – a series which is gorgeous is both appearance and flavour.
Distilled 2011 and bottled 2017, this was matured in a bourbon cask which yielded 258.
Islay’s Bruichladdich produces three distinct styles of whisky – an unpeated (Bruichladdich), heavily peated (Port Charlotte) and an ultra-peated (Octomore). This release falls in the latter and is a very rare example of single cask Octomore. The distillery are very careful about where their casks end up and only a handful of select bottlers (Rest & Be Thankful, Scotch Malt Whisky Society) get their hands on barrels.
When tasting the Savannah series in a line-up, do this last. You won’t taste much after this glorious smoke assault.
A very special release of whisky that created quite a stir when they were first released in Europe in 2017, the ‘Savannah’ series is the third release from Antique Lions Of Whisky. The indie bottler was formed by Jens Drewitz of Germany’s Sansibar alongside Italian whisky merchants Max Righi (Silver Seal) and Diego Sandrin (Whisky Antique).
This release is a homage to the Moon Import bottlings prominent in Europe in the ‘90s and ‘00s. Often beautifully stylised, this homage series has some of the best packaging we’ve ever seen.
The whiskies have been selected to have an ‘old world European’ style, so expect them to be soft, elegant and fruity with fantastic poise.
Having secured and presented the Birds series in 2017 and the Butterfly series in 2018, we are proud to have again secured a small allocation from the Savannah series.
