A sweet 10-year-old indie bottling of Diageo workhorse distillery Teaninich by That Boutique-y Whisky Company.
This is Batch 3 that TBWC have bottled, aged 10 years and bottled at 49.2% with 2,893 bottles in the run.
The majority of this distillery's production is used for blends, but it is a real under-the-radar achiever in the hands on indies. A whisky drinker's whisky. It uses a unique mashing hammer mill to grind the barley into a flour-like consistency, which helps promote a clean and grassy new make.
Nose: Candied lemon peels and warming ginger.
Palate: Sweet to start with more of the warming ginger coming through.
Finish: A burst of orchard fruit and a sprinkle of brown sugar followed by a lingering spiciness.
Of the label the bottlers say:
"Based on a true love story from many years ago about Captain Hugh Munro (founder of this distillery). He was shot in the head behind his eyes but, he survived! Unsurprisingly, he lost his eyesight as a result.
"His sweetheart was forbidden from marrying him due to his condition, so she married someone else. Despite their differing paths, she continued to love him and as her dying wish, visited the church to see him one last time."
