A Kentucky Straight Bourbon from Michter's payong homage to the Bomberger's distillery, a powerhouse of the 1800s bourbon scene which would later be renamed as Michter's.
Bottled at 108 proof (54%), the 2020 release once again uses a proportion of chinquapin oak (quercus muehlenbergii), which brings out fruit and tannin in the whiskey. There is a larger proportion in the 2020 edition than there was in 2019.
Michter's Master Of Maturation Andrea Wilson told Whisky Magazine, "It’s a very interesting tree to work with and while we’re still learning all the different things we can get from it, chinquapin imparts an incredibly rich profile.
“It’s comparably priced to American white oak, but it’s a little bit more expensive simply because the loggers don’t really like to work with it. The tree doesn’t grow particularly straight so it makes it more difficult to harvest, and the cooperages have difficulty working with it.”
Released in small batches and limited in allocations to Australia.
