Strength To Strength For Sam Vinciullo Wines

Strength To Strength For Sam Vinciullo Wines

Posted by Joe Perry on 10th Jan 2019

Over the last 3 vintages Sam Vinciullo has consistently impressed the natural wine world all across the country and beyond, with his wines of superb quality, immense purity, and sense of place.

Sam has worked in wineries all across the globe, honing a variety of winemaking skills, and eventually landed in one of the world’s most highly acclaimed natural farming sites, Mount Etna. During his time in Sicily his passion for sustainability in farming and winemaking grew. Sam understands that quality and purity start at the beginning and the importance of working with a healthy environment.

Upon returning to Australia in 2015 Sam began making his own wines and has since became one of Australia’s best natural wine producers. Sam’s previous 3 vintages were produced using purchased grapes from a beautiful site in Warner Glen, the vineyards were only farmed using techniques that Sam himself would use. His 2018 releases represent a new era for Sam Vinciullo wines as last year he purchased his own farm near Cowaramup which was always his goal. Now Sam is able to work every step of the farming and winemaking process personally.

His new site has 6 hectares of vines planted on clay and limestone to allow for great drainage. Sam uses a variety of techniques he has learnt to farm including seaweed spray and fish oil.

Sam’s winemaking does not use any oak influence, preferring to use pots and tanks instead. His 4 new releases from the new site show sensational expression of fruit. The purity is extremely evident and follows a unique Vinciullo-like power with balances subtlety and length together. These wines are ethereal and delicious, a pure joy to drink and a very exciting sign of things to come from a fantastic producer.

This is taut, aromatic and very refreshing. 55% Sauvignon Blanc with some maceration - pure hydration.

The evolution of this cuvee since bottling has been so great to see. It's a blend of all of the shiraz blocks from the property and is medium bodied and wonderfully supple. One of the great features of sandy soul is the capacity to make very fluid and drinkable wines and this cuvee has these attributes in spades - this is so, so pleasant to drink

This cuvee takes purity to the extreme - it's the unmistakable flavour of Cabernet Sauvignon picked at just the right moment and vinified as whole berries with extreme gentleness

I am deeply in love with this wine. It's energetic and the structure reflects the sandy soul with great transparency. Sam has picked this cuvee for freshness but the concentration is also very well balanced and very delicious. Unmissable
