New Brews at the OB

New Brews at the OB

So many tasty beers have come in recently that hand-picking these new arrivals has been quite a task that we have taken rather seriously. We have put together a selection encompassing a couple of super-limited releases, some returning legends along with a heavily Simpson referenced brew. Come along on this journey like you should come along to this year’s Craft Beer and Cider Fair which will bring you along to view some of our best local brewing talent on Saturday July 27 th.

Stone & Wood ‘Counter Culture’ Killer Kween Imperial Berliner Weisse

A long title for an even longer awaited release from Stone & Wood, the Killer Kween ushers in a new era of experimentation for the Byron Bay stalwarts. Creating their ‘Counter Culture’ range will see fun, fruity, funky and super-limited releases coming from the team, and whenever you see these releases in store, know that they won’t be hanging around for very long.

Killer Kween is a glorious amalgam of raspberry tartness, lacto funk and great booze layered over and incredibly balanced and subtly spiced berliner weisse. An elevated alcohol level for the style, sitting at 7.2%, is crucial to balancing out the 1.2 tonnes of Raspberries used to create the colour and zingy-yet-fruity characteristics of the Kween.

We are looking at a beer that goes against the grain for Stone & Wood, opting for a modern interpretation of a well-known style. This is limited to 1 beer per member only!

Capital Brewing ‘Hang Loose Juice’ NEIPA

If you’ve been in recently, you know that we are a huge fan of the brewing works coming from our nation’s capital. But for the first time ever, Capital Brewing has released something new, something fresh and some limited to put in the hands of all you lovely barrelers coming through our doors.

Coming on with impact like a big wave of blood orange awesomeness comes ‘Hang Loose Juice’, originally a once-off brew that took out best IPA at the Australian Beer Festival has been resurrected to be enjoyed and relaxed along with.

Taking a solid late dosing of Galaxy, Mosaic and El Dorado hops to an IPA base blended with blood orange juice and good times. Hazy in appearance, juicy in texture and slight bitterness in the finish leaves you with an incredibly memorable and satisfying NEIPA that won’t be around for long at all.

Old Wives Ales

Four friends, beers in hand and an air of curiosity launched the concept for Old Wives Ales and saw it turning from chat to reality for Nathan, Mattias, Justin and Shannon. Starting out using kitchen pots, rudimentary plastic tubs and patience to brew their not-so-amazing initial batches at home, they soon learnt where they were making mistakes and kept on brewing better and better beers and started to garner respect amongst their home-brewing peers in Melbourne. Like a lot of new age breweries, Old Wives hop between breweries where they can to bring an amazing array of tasty beer-y treats for us all.

Get Frukt Berliner Weisse

As some of the best beers come about, Get Frukt has an amazing tale around its creation. For co-owner Shannon, his 40 th birthday was an amazing opportunity to flex his creativity muscle and make some beer to celebrate with his friends (and show off just a lil’ bit). His approach was to kettle sour some berliner weisse on his trail home kit, split them across three kegs and add a different fruit each one, consisting of raspberry, passionfruit and blueberry. Assumingly after a few drinks shared amongst friends, the idea to mix all three together came up and the resulting mix was so damn awesome it came to life as Get Frukt! A beer equivalent of the Fruit Tingle cocktail, incorporating sharp, fruit and sour into perfect balance to make you feel like it’s your own birthday party with every sip.

Old Man Yells at Cloud

One of the best headlines to come out of the Simpsons is also the name for one of the most solid NEIPAs available throughout Australia. Old Man Yells at Cloud is one of the most sought-after releases from Old Wives and it came into the fold at the right time in the breweries timeline, offering up a stellar mix of hop flavour with that haze that we all and need. By moving their focus from the pure bittering power of hops, even though there is a heaping of Aussie and NZ making their presence known, the juicy body holds everything together and allows for joy to be sparked in all that drink this.

Pop’s Passion Tart

As old wives moved more beers into cans towards summer last year, their approach was to bring thirst quenchers to the forefront and one of their most incredible summer crushers was Pop’s Passion Tart. Being a collaborative release with the cold-smoked salt lords at Smalt and incorporating salt into beer means one thing; GOSE. Bringing tart and fruity passionfruit together with Applewood smoked sea salt is a match made in smoky heaven and keeps that summer feeling alive at any time of the year.

AND if you felt like dipping into some old favorites or discovering something new we have a free counter tasting on this Friday!
