Introducing Chateau de Beru
With over 400 years worth of history established in Chablis, the wines of Chateau de Beru are some of the most highly regarded in all of Burgundy. After replanting the vineyards in 1987 after they were wiped out by phylloxera at the start of the century, Comte Eric de Beru established the iconic monopole vineyard Clos Beru along side others
Today the estate is managed by his daughter Athénaïs who took over in 2004 after his passing. Immediately she set about covering the vineyards to organic, and then biodynamics, which it is now Demeter certified. Today Athénaïs is considered one of the best and most respected winemakers in then region.
Set on top of the hill of Beru, the vines are densely planted at 6500 vines per hectare in Kimmeridgian soils consisting of crushed limestone and marine fossils. Because of this the vines work much harder to seek out nutrients, therefore producing lower yields.
The wines of Chateau de Beru are immensely expressive, both showcase a lightning like acidity that is perfectly balanced with the minerality and mouthfeel. These are exceptional wines that would not be out of place along side the likes of the grand cru wines of Raveneau, Dauvissat, and many others.
It’s worth noting that Athénaïs is one of very few winemakers that makes their wines both with and without sulphur additions.
