Introducing Champagne Val Frison

Posted by Joe Perry on 13th Nov 2019

Based in the village of Cote des Bar in the south of Champagne, Valerie Frison grows 6 hectares of vines planted to 93% pinot noir and 7% Chardonnay. Grown organically since 2003, of the 6 hectares grown at the estate, only 3.5 are used in the production of Val Frison with the rest going to a local cooperative.

In the vineyard, Valerie is passionate about biodiversity. Opting away from the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides, she has great respect to the life of the vines to create uniquely expressive cuvee’s. In the winery, all the ferments are done naturally with wild yeasts, and receive no additions of sulfur after disgorgment.

Cuvee Goustan is a very unique Blanc de Noir - 100% pinot noir harvested in 2015. This cuvee sees 6 months on lees, with no fining or filtration. No dosage is added after disgorgement making this Brut Nature, allowing the purity and acid line of the fruit to shine. The richness of the 100% pinot noir gives this wine incredible texture and length on the palate, with a bursting energy of ripe red berries, blue flowers, and a nuance of elegant wild herbs with fine bubbles.

Cuvee Goustan Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature NV is a fantastic example of a vibrant, expressive grower champagne from 100% pinot noir that should be included alongside the cuvees of many of the great grower producers in the region.
