Citizens,

Brewer's making Smoked beers always use this brewery as the benchmark.

Useful Facts

The brewery has been in operation since 1405

Schlenkerla roughly translates as "Dangling". Schlenkernis a German verb meaning to swing or to dangle. The name reportedly comes from a brewer with a hobbling gait whose image can be seen on the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier bottle.

The brewery's legal name is HellerBräu Trum KG, after the Trum family that has owned and run it for six generations.

AECHT SCHLENKERLA KRÄUSEN

Aecht Schlenkerla Krausen is an amber-colored, unfiltered lager beer with a light smoky taste. It matures in the deep tunnels under Bamberg's Stephansberg and is topped up with classic Aecht Schlenkerla smoked beer shortly before serving.

AECHT SCHLENKERLA RAUCHBIER URBOCK

A full bodied smoked bock beer. Brewed already in the summer time, it is matured for months in the ancient Schlenkerla rock-cellars underneath Bamberg. Much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

AECHT SCHLENKERLA RAUCHBIER MARZEN

Marzen is considered the classic example in its category. Following the most ancient malting traditions, all its select barley malts are kilned over a fire of beech wood logs at the Schlenkerla maltings. Brewed in classic copper vessels and matured for months in 14th century cellars, Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier is a truly unique smoky beer experience.

AECHT SCHLENKERLA RAUCHBIER WEIZEN

Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked.

AECHT SCHLENKERLA EICHE DOPPELBOCK

While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt.
