Batch 34 of Black Snake's Australian grown and made agave spirit, in the style of Mexican mezcal.
Chosen to be a "Distillers Batch", this has been released at 45% rather than the usual 40%.
The batches vary from one another and 34 was a favourite from samples sent to The Oak Barrel, in particuar it was Joey's pick.
One of the more distinct batches, this is very green, lots of stewed vegetables on the nose with an undertone of roasted agave.
Palate is similar, leafy and vegetal while being mouth-coating and rich with a back-end spice. Smoke very gentle on this one.
The Black Snake distillery is run by Rosemary and Stephen Smith in Narrabri, in New South Wales' north west. Inspired by Mexican mezcal and tequila, locally grown Americana agave plants are harvested by hand, smoked for several days in a hand-built brick and soil oven using materials from their property.
Distilled in very small runs, the resulting ASp spirits are released in equally small batches. Flavours vary from run-to-run and there is constant experimentation at their distillery.
