Oak Barrel thoughts:
The sweet nose is cleaner than some previous barrels, not as jumpy but still with a hint of clay. Palate follows suit, hint of spice at the start that mellows out into golden syrup dumplings on the end. Short to medium finish, very moreish. Awesome value as I look at the price tag after tasting.
Black Gate is located in Mendooran in country New South Wales, between Dubbo and Coonabarabran. It is run by husband-and-wife team Brian and Genise Hollingworth, with Genise controlling the rum distillation.
