A single cask whisky bottled by Berry Brothers’ & Rudd from an undisclosed Orkney Island distillery.
Distilled 2000, this was filled into cask #1 and bottled 2018 as a 17-year-old. The presence of peat gives us a fair indication that this is from a distillery that malts a portion of its own peated barley needs.
Wine and spirits merchant Berry Brothers & Rudd is located at 3 St James’ St and has remained family owned since its formation in 1698.
Tasting notes from BRR:
The nose suggests a perfect balance of Orcadian peat smoke and delicate vanilla from the whisky’s maturation in American oak. Honey and tablet notes offer further promises.
The palate is pleasingly complex, offering more honey and citrus fruit.
A long and lingering finish shows wood spice and a resurgence of peat.
