The classic 12-year-old DoubleWood, a whisky matured in refill ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to sherry oak.
First introduced in 1993, this whisky was one of the early champions of cask finishes and double maturations.
A whisky that showcases nuttiness and spiciness amongst fruity notes, part of the joy here is the finish which even at 40% is lengthy and luxurious.
Nose: Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla.
Palate: Smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavours ~ nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry.
Finish: Long and Warming
Founded in 1892 and built next to sister distillery Glenfiddich, Balvenie has emerged from a history of providing whisky for various Grants blends to become one of the most in-demand names in whisky. Balvenie produces a sweet, honey new make which works well with slow, patient aging.
