A single sherry cask, cask strength whisky from France's Warenghem distillery, bottled as Armorik, that to date is their oldest single malt release.
The Millesime range was first introduced in 2012 as a ten-year-old single cask to celebrate the first decade-old whisky. Since then one single cask has been released under the Millesime label each year.
Landing in Australia April 2016, this was distilled 15 February 2002 and was bottled July 2015. It spent four years in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred into a second-fill oloroso sherry cask #3260. The cask yeilded just 739 bottles. Of that, only 48 have made it to Australia.
Tasting notes by The Oak Barrel:
As with previously editions of the Millesime, this is big on the sherry cask. Not as subdued as last year's release, this is full of plums, figs and raisins on the nose - drawing you in deep to the depths of the aroma as the best of the Armorik releases do. A truly excellent nose. The palate holds that forest fruit appeal with the addition of oak and spice - and lots of the latter. Fresh pine appears but cracked pepper and jumpy spice dance through from the palate long into the finish.
