The crazy, restless teams at our local distillery Archie Rose have continued to push the boundaries for their latest limited release – Archie Mite Buttered Toast Spirit.
Inspired by a popular Aussie breakfast spread, this unaged spirit was distilled with a blend of their “favourite yeast extract spreads”, freshly churned Pepe Saya butter and the “legendary long-fermented” Sonoma Sourdough Toast.
A release of just 3,000 bottles, it’s an experiment that has Head Distiller Dave Withers’ name written all over it. (Literally, his signature is on the bottle.)
In the distillery’s own words, “This unaged spirit has a big, mitey character at the front followed by biscuity, bready notes. On the palate you’re given a combination of all three elements coming together - buttery, almost warm, crisp-edged toast with that umami-rich, savoury mite flavour.”
Play around with it, but it comes highly recommended in a ‘Mitey Mary’ or an ‘Espresso Mite-ini’.
Located in Rosebery, Archie Rose has been a trailblazer for urban Sydney distilleries. With a look towards age spirits like whisky, they are also famous for gin, vodka and various distilled experiments.
