A Kentucky straight bourbon finished in port wine barrels for six months - a modern and unique take on American whiskey.
Since its release in 2011, Angel's Envy continues to create a splash have become highly-sought after by drinkers and collectors, generating thousands of blog and social media posts. Arriving in Australia in very limited quantities, it was initially only available through bars but The Oak Barrel is proud to be one of the hand-selected retailers now able to offer it.
A Kentucky straight bourbon aged for up to six years is finished in ex-port casks for up to six months. It create a whiskey that is not only rich and smooth, but multi-faceted and layered. Batches are between 8 and 12 barrels.
Created by Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson and his son Wes, Angel's Envy opened the doors to its own distillery in Louisville in 2016.
Oak Barrel Tasting Notes:
Nose: Perfumed fruit, soft spice, cedarwood, caramel.
Palate: Sweet honey, caramel, soft stewed fruits, spice, toasty oak.
Finish: Dry with persistent spice and round fruit.
Comment: The softness of the texture belies the richness of the flavour. It's a whiskey that has a fair bit going on, repeat passes encouraged.
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: You’ll detect notes of subtle vanilla, raisins, maple syrup and toasted nuts.
Palate: Vanilla, ripe fruit, maple syrup, toast and bitter chocolate.
Finish: Clean and lingering sweetness with a hint of Madeira that slowly fades.
