A 12-year-old single cask from an undisclosed distillery in the Scottish highlands, bottled by Adelphi under their ‘Breath Of The Highlands’ label.
Drawn from a first fill ex-PX sherry butt, this has the colour of an old grand piano. Straight away the nose delivers oodles of McCowan’s Highland Toffee, in the background there are prunes, cloves, Christmas mince pies and a savoury element of bread sauce.
The palate brings Scottish tablet, star anise, brandy snaps, mulled wine, stewed fruits and parmaviolets. The finish is long, lingering and slightly drying.
Distilled 2007 this was bottled in 2019 as a 12-year-old, with 556 bottles at 52.7%
Adelphi is one of the world's top independent bottlers of whisky. They acquire casks already matured to bottle, as opposed to maturing them themselves, and the Adelphi brand has been synonymous with top quality whisky for in the post-2000 era. The company also owns the Ardnamurchan distillery on Scotland's east coast, which distilled its first spirit in 2014.
